NENAD VELIČKOVIĆ: SAHIB
The Artbiro d.o.o. production house decided to stage a noted text "Sahib" by Nenad Veličković, one of the best authors of contemporary literature from Sarajevo. The story is recounted by an English official serving at the United Nations mission in Sarajevo, whose task is to "civilise Bosnia". The questions posed by "Sahib" touch all of us, all the societies who care about those who are different, as well as all those who defend their diversity by placing it side by side with generally acknowledged norms.
Through witty text and laughter the text focuses on sad truths that we do not talk about enough. Differences, judgmental attitude and exclusion can be felt by each of us in our micro and macrocosm. It is only a question of where we stand at certain times.
With this performance we wish to focus on these questions; we want to establish a dialogue about these issues and demonstrate that the criteria we judge our fellow human beings with today are completely wrong.
A top notch artistic team has gathered around the project:
Directed by: Ivana Djilas
Starring: Brane Završan
Music: Boštjan Gombač and others
Our co producer is Cankarjev dom. The premiere is scheduled for 12 March 2009 in the Štihova dvorana hall.
The repeats are already scheduled for 13 and 17 – 21 March 2009 (six repeats).
The performance is also going on guest appearances around the former Yugoslav countries. A premiere of the English version of the performance is scheduled for October 2009; in this case the guest appearances will begin in Great Britain and then proceed all over Europe.
In the production sense we want to carry out Sahib as a mobile performance, since technically it is going to be a very simple project. We would like to organise discussions with the young about respecting diversity, feelings of superiority, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.
